Special Cases

We don't just help reunite dogs with their owners. In some cases we are asked to help with stray dogs.

Stray Dog Collingham

We took a call on Friday morning from Collingham Vets in Collingham, Newark asking for our help to trap a dog that had been seen over the last week along the River Trent.  Volunteers went out yesterday afternoon and set a baited trap and by 8pm the dog was hungrily eating the food around it.  On camera he was extremely skinny but looked too big for our trap and sure enough he knocked the trap shut with him on the outside.  It didn’t seem to phase him and he hung around for half hour trying to eat what he could get to. He was back at the trap just before 9am Saturday morning to see if any food was left.  A call to the Fishimg Bailiff who kindly came and put a bit of food out and plans were in hand to borrow a larger trap. 2.30pm we were back with a larger trap and baited again. Now we had to wait.

A couple of us left at 6pm with a couple staying behind to monitor the trap.  At 8pm we were back to swap shift.  A long wait til just after 10.30pm and he was back sniffing around.  After a tense 10 minutes waiting he was in and door shut.

He’s a small whippet/bull lurcher type, extremely skinny, only a baby but he was feisty when we got him out on a lead but we managed to get j into a travel crate and let him settle.

A quick drive to Collingham vets who opened up for us just before midnight to take him in.

Massive thanks to Notts 4x4 Response volunteers, Stu, Aaron & Emma for helping transport the big trap down a mile long very potholed lane to the river and for doing shifts with us.

Thank you to Jenny of Lost dog Tracking  Network Notts & Derby for bringing the big trap over and helping on first shift and
thanks to Dog SOS Derbyshire (SEARCH & RESCUE) for lending their big trap and travel crate.

And thank you to the staff at Collingham Vets for the care for this gorgeous pup.

A huge team effort by all!!
